How to choose the right physiotherapist

How to choose the right physiotherapist

When you need a physiotherapist it can be difficult knowing who to choose for your particular needs. Choosing someone that is well qualified, experienced and reputable will involve some research. But, it can be difficult to know where to start. Here we look at some key things to consider when making your choice.

Physio Registration

The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) is the professional, educational and trade union body for physiotherapists in the United Kingdom. Members of the CSP follow strict rules of professional conduct and standards of physiotherapy practice. Similarly, every osteopath is registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC).

Everyone at Cheshire Physiotherapy is a fully registered therapist. That also includes years of experience in practice - some both in the UK and abroad.

We always recommend before any treatment, that you:

  • Check your therapist is registered
  • Check their experience - and check their patient reviews
  • Make sure you understand the diagnosis and treatment plan
  • If in doubt - just ask.

Qualifications

All Physiotherapists qualifying since 1994 will have undertaken a University degree course. However, some go further and complete a postgraduate course, showing their extra commitment in their chosen field.

Osteopathy requires at least four years of full-time training that leads to a bachelor's degree in osteopathy or a masters degree.

Of course it is also a good idea to get to know your physio face to face. How well you get on will make a big difference to how you respond to your treatments.
